Finding Calm in Los Angeles: Inside the Home of Kate Parfet
Tucked into the hills of Los Angeles, Kate Parfet's home feels like a quiet retreat from the pace of the city. As a creative entrepreneur, founder and mom, creating a space that offers both calm and connection is essential. Here, nature sets the rhythm, thoughtful design encourages slower living and every room is meant to be enjoyed rather than admired from afar.
For this edition of At Home, we stepped inside to learn more about the people, places, and everyday moments that have shaped Kate's home, the philosophy behind her design approach, and the Coyuchi pieces that helped her bring that vision to life.

Thank you for welcoming us into your home. Please tell us a bit about yourself and how you spend your time.
I'm the co-founder of Wiggle Room, a creative marketing studio that helps brands connect with modern families through storytelling, community, and thoughtful experiences.
Most days are a mix of writing, creative meetings, hosting events, and trying to keep up with my two-year-old son, Louis. Our home is where many of those things happen. It's where we live, work, entertain, and gather with friends. I love that it doesn't have just one purpose.

How would you describe the design aesthetic of your home? What was your inspiration?
We wanted the house to feel calm and collected, but never precious. Somewhere you could pad around barefoot in the morning, host a dinner party that night, and not feel like you had to change a thing. We've always been drawn to California modernism and Japanese architecture.

But more than anything, we wanted the house to belong to the landscape. We live on a hillside surrounded by trees, so the goal was to blur the line between indoors and out.
Nature is a central component of your home. Could you tell us more about that?
Nature is probably the biggest reason we fell in love with the house in the first place.
The light changes constantly throughout the day as it moves through the trees, and every room feels different because of it. We keep the windows open whenever we can, and there are always birds outside, breezes coming through, and our son running around the yard. Those little moments shape the rhythm of our days and are a big part of what makes living here so special.

Your home often serves as a gathering place for intimate events. How does the concept of community influence your design aesthetic, and what atmosphere do you strive to cultivate for those who are invited into your home?
Community is a huge part of why we designed the house the way we did. We never wanted it to feel like a museum… we wanted it to be comfortable enough that people would kick off their shoes, pour another glass of wine, and stay longer than they planned.
Some of my favorite nights have been long dinners where half the guests didn't know each other before they arrived. I love watching conversations unfold between people who probably wouldn't have crossed paths otherwise. If everyone ends up lingering around the kitchen or sitting outside long after dessert, that's usually a sign the night was a success.
What room do you and your family spend the most time in, and why?
Probably our bedroom. It's where we naturally pile in together. Louis loves reading books on our bed, and the wall of windows looks straight out into the trees. It almost feels like you're sleeping in a treehouse, which is one of my favorite things about the house.

Which Coyuchi piece do you gravitate toward the most and why?
The Organic Crinkled Percale Sheets. They're one of those things you don't think much about until you've slept in them for a while and realize you don't want to sleep on anything else. They feel crisp without feeling stiff, and they've only gotten softer over time. I genuinely look forward to climbing into bed every night.
