Founder Cora Hilts shares how she gets her sustainable Maine sanctuary ready for hosting and cool weather with Flannel, Climate Beneficial Wool, and creates a dream tablescape with Sonoma.

As we move into the colder months here in Maine, I am really learning to embrace slow living which goes hand in hand with my ethos of sustainable living. It’s such a pleasure to have partnered with Coyuchi to put together a cozy cold weather bedding spread and autumn table with their gorgeous organic cotton. Here are my top ten picks for a Maine-themed holiday season at home!

Cloud Brushed™ Organic Flannel Collection

I don’t think I have ever slept in bedding this lovely before….I have too often found flannel to be too heavy and not breathable but these sheets are the perfect weight and so unbelievably soft. Knowing that they are made from organic cotton, I can rest easy that they are also very kind to our skin and to the planet.

Climate Beneficial Wool Tahoe Blanket

Growing up in Maine I have always been a fan of a good wool blanket, and this gorgeous gray and black one is as sophisticated as it is cozy. The story behind it is amazing as well. The wool is washed and combed, and then sent to a dye house founded in 1869, where it is spun into thick, loosely twisted, high-gauge yarns. Under the direction of a fourth-generation weaver, these yarns are loomed into an heirloom-quality blanket with a loose weave for warmth and amazing drape.

Sonoma Textured Organic Collection

I am such a fan of a deep colour palette for tablescaping, and these tablecloths and napkins are just perfect for autumnal entertaining. I love the slight imperfections of the organic cotton, making it almost linen-like.

Variations in yarn size create a crinkled texture, in yarn-dyed color that maintains its hue through years of wash and wear. These will be perennial favorites for me!

RAIN Candle

This RAIN candle is the most amazing unisex blend of fragrances that works perfectly in the bedroom. The marble outside makes it blend in so well with any room you put it in and it’s made with all natural ingredients and absolutely no nasties in there!

Wilding by Isabella Tree

This book I read for the first time quite a few years ago when we were still living in London. It’s about a farm in the UK called Knepp Estate that entirely turned themselves away from toxic agricultural practices to regenerative growing and conservation work. They are now a leading voice in the movement to rewild and it’s such an inspiring read. I would encourage anyone looking for a lovely story of hope to pick up a copy.
