Kristi Reed

My name is Kristi and I live in the countryside of Montana with my husband, two kiddos, and a handful of animals. When I'm not busy with them I'm working on my vintage and lifestyle shop Windy Peak Vintage.

Clare Gillies

Hi there readers,
If we haven't met before, I'm Clare. I'm a model/actress currently living in LA. I also take photos for fun and sometimes for fun money....who doesn't these days? This is my second time to team up with Coyuchi and I honestly couldn't be happier about it. I LOVE ORGANIC BEDDING. I'm also happy to have a legitimate reason to play with my boyfriend's cameras. Alas....let's get on with the interview.

Elaina Bellis

Hi, my name is Elaina Bellis, model/art director, wife, and mama to 3. I have identical twin daughters, and an angel baby, Lincoln.

Shiva Rose

It’s such a beautiful Synchronized moment when worlds collide. I have been buying my bedding from Coyuchi for many years, so it’s a joy to be able to try a new item.

How did you come to find Coyuchi?

Kristi Reed

I saw some beautiful photos of beautiful linen floating around the ol' internet which led me to Coyuchi. I was so drawn to the lovely, earthy colors and soft organic fabrics.

Clare Gillies

Since we last spoke it seems like my whole family is in love with Coyuchi, but I technically discovered it through my older sister.

Elaina Bellis

When we bought our organic mattress, I had posted a story asking where to find the best sheets and SO many people responded, Coyuchi! That's when I fell in loveeeee

Sarah Yates

I discovered Coyuchi years ago when I was pregnant and searching for organic bedding. I was elated to find a company whose bedding reflects my values and aesthetics.

What does organic mean to you?

Kristi Reed

To me, organic is something grown or created from the earth without any synthetic unnatural manipulation. It is earthy friendly, pure, and sustainable.

Clare Gillies

To me, organic means something untouched and natural from the earth. In a daily context, it would be products and foods that keep the planet and the consumer's health and sustainability in mind.

Elaina Bellis

Clean, healthy living.

Sarah Yates

For me organic means I can breathe easy, knowing I’m supporting my family’s health and the health of the planet. It means quality and care- I have found that generally speaking the companies who produce organic products put more care and effort into everything- design, aesthetics, and function.

Shiva Rose

For over a decade I’ve been on the holistic path. I started my lifestyle site The Local Rose to document my healing journey from autoimmune issues. When I started my site, living clean wasn’t as chic as it is now.

How has living an organic lifestyle shaped your overall health and wellbeing?

Kristi Reed

Part of our decision to move from Philadelphia to Montana was to slow down, live with more intention and focus on our health. Our newfound organic lifestyle led us to become calmer, happier people. We slow down and cook every meal with fresh, whole foods. We stay away from synthetic fibers and go to sleep soundly in organic cotton and linens. Slow, organic living helped us to get pregnant and start a healthy family. It enabled us to create a living community and to surround ourselves with like-minded and, caring people. Organic living has enhanced our wellbeing so much in all aspects of life.

Clare Gillies

I was raised pretty 'organic' (thanks mom!) so I've always been into it...although things have obviously evolved since the ’90s. I think the first time I truly became aware of how an organic lifestyle shaped my health etcetera was when I went to China for the first time. I was 16, not with my parents and experiencing heavy pollution. It was obvious to me the impact the environment and food quality had on my health. (Maybe that sounds silly, but I know and meet a lot of people who honestly don't make ANY connection between their environment/diet and their health. Which honestly if you're not exposed to the information and you don't seek it out-- I get it. ) I've also experienced travel in other countries where they do a much better job (than we do) of banning plastics, unsafe ingredients (mostly for beauty products and food), etc. My travels gave me perspective on my own lifestyle-- on how important clean living is and also on how I can always strive to make improvements in my habits and choices.

Following an organic lifestyle has made me more conscious overall. I feel more in my body and connected to it because I care about what goes into it. The deeper you dig, the more you realize most of the things we are accustomed to using in daily life are either toxic or single-use or both. I only recently learned that there is a harmful runoff from synthetic fabrics every time you do laundry! So when you're thinking "why does it matter if my clothes, bedding, linens, etcetera are organic/made of natural fibers?" It absolutely does. The ocean is suffering from our LAUNDRY. So scary. The last time I interviewed with Coyuchi I mentioned that I mostly shop secondhand...and now I'll be keeping a closer eye out for the fabrics of what I'm buying as well.

Elaina Bellis

It's very rare that I get sick, my husband actually remembers all the times I've gotten sick because it's so few and far between. I truly believe that's because of my lifestyle! We eat all organic, all of our skincare products either organic or natural. We make choices in our family that benefit our well being, and our Earth.

Sarah Yates

I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in 2011 and that was a real turning point for me. I took a deep dive into health and wellness to avoid a lifetime of medications and hospitalizations, and it was during that learning process that I discovered the importance of clean living and reducing my exposure to chemicals. I replaced everything in my home that I could with organic and clean counterparts. It had a tremendous impact on my health. Clean eating and maintaining a home with as many green products as possible I truly believe, has kept me healthy.

Shiva Rose

Today I am elated to see people realizing that eating clean is only the tip of the iceberg. To truly begin to live an energized, thriving life it’s essential to use clean products in the home, clean beauty products on the skin, and sleep on non-toxic bedding.

How important is sleeping on organic bedding?

Kristi Reed

Sleeping on organic bedding is really important for me and for my family. We are exposed to so many unnatural substances going about our day. We get to escape from that at night with organic bedding. It's part of our self-care routine and just all-around better for the environment. I had never tried sleeping in linen until recently and will never go back to anything else. It's so soft and breathable.

Clare Gillies

I touched on this in my earlier rant/response, but I feel it's very important! I am guilty of buying cheap bedding in the past. As a young person who has moved around a fair amount in the past seven years, I haven't always had the funds to make the most responsible purchases...or so that's what I thought at the time. It just makes a huge difference for everyone if the products we are buying and using are not harmful to MAKE and are easily broken down to reuse/ recycle so they're not harmful to let go of either. I'm not sure of the science but I'm sure that organic bedding positively impacts our health....so many people have allergies that could probably be reduced or avoided if their pillows/pillowcases/bedding weren't toxic. Right?

Elaina Bellis

The more I learn about what it takes to make clothing, home goods, etc.. The more I realized how important it is to buy organic, and sustainably made. Not only for our health but for our mother earth. It is SO important.

Shiva Rose

The hours we spend resting and sleeping are a form of resurrecting ourselves. Once we make the correlation that our skin, the largest organ absorbs what fabrics are made of, we cannot go back to toxic, bleached, fibers. For me, my bedroom and bed are a sanctuary. I don’t have any electronics in my bedroom, and I have an organic mattress. I usually play mantras to set the tone in the room where I feel most at peace.

How has the Serenity Pillow changed your sleep so far?

Kristi Reed

The Serenity Pillow has helped me get through some tough nights and allowed me to feel a deep sleep that I haven't felt for some time. I am co-sleeping with my 1-year-old and have found the Serenity Pillow to give me the support I need when I need to roll over, reposition and nurse her or when I'm just generally tossing and turning. I love sleeping on my stomach but usually find it uncomfortable to have my face squished in the pillow. The headspace on the Serenity Pillow has made it so much more comfortable, plus I don't wake up with crazy creases on my face. We are going camping this weekend and I am definitely bringing the pillow along for the fun.

Clare Gillies

I have noticeably less neck pain. I sleep in very odd positions and I feel like the serenity pillow has kept my head and neck in a better position. I also love the squishy-firmness it has. It's so comfortable. Also, it has that foamy quality without any strange/bad smell... obviously because it's organic! Yay!

Shiva Rose

I have been using a silk pillowcase for years since it is more gentle on the skin and hair. I now use the silk, plant-dyed case on my serenity pillow. I truly appreciate the way it cradles my ear since I am a side sleeper.

What type of pillow do you normally sleep on?

Kristi Reed

I usually start with a firm foam pillow and switch to a thin feather pillow. I could never find a balance until I started using the serenity pillow.

Elaina Bellis

Normally, I sleep on an organic down pillow.

Tell us a little bit about your wellness routine? How has this pillow fit into your routine?

Kristi Reed

I am guilty of rushing through my nightly wellness routine when I am buy putting toddlers to bed but I always take a minute to mist some calming nighttime oils on my serenity pillow, rest my head, and read a favorite short story or poem. It does the mind and body a lot of good.

Elaina Bellis

I am a very active person. I usually wake up every morning around 6 am to my 3.5-year-old twins and start my day! We eat an all-organic diet, and very minimal meat and dairy. I workout 3-4 days a week! I practice yoga and meditation. I try to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night! It's important for me, and my family that mama is rested and mentally feeling centered! The serenity pillow allows for me to get a sounder night sleep!

Shiva Rose

Beauty to me is a way of living. My skincare line was created as a way to honor the earth as well as our skin. I start my morning with my Radiant Rose Water Face Mist from my beauty line. I then will use my glow balm or face oil. I feel after waking up in the morning, since using the pillow, I have less puffiness around the eyes. The way it supports the neck and shoulders helps the lymph system flow.

How important is sleeping on organic bedding?

Kristi Reed

Very important! I had sheets made of polyester in college and it felt like I was sleeping in a plastic bag. My whole sleep world changed when I switched to organic bedding.

Sarah Yates

Very! We spend so much of our lives in bed, I want the quality of everything involved in our sleep to be the very best!

How has the Serenity Pillow changed your sleep so far?

Elaina Bellis

I sleep more soundly before I started using the serenity pillow I would toss and turn all night long. Now, I fall asleep and stay put ( until the girls come and get me in the middle of the night)

Sarah Yates

I’ve never experienced a pillow like it before- it has really cozy, cushiony support. I love that it has versatility- I alternate between side and back sleeping and need a pillow that can work for both.

What changes have you experienced?

Kristi Reed

For what seems like forever now I've been going back and forth with a super stuff foam pillow and soft feather pillow and never could find a happy medium. I've found the Serenity Pillow to be exactly that. It's great for nighttime reading, midnight nursing, side sleeping, back sleeping, stomach sleeping and everything in between. I love sleeping on my stomach but usually find it uncomfortable to have my face squished in the pillow. The headspace on the Serenity Pillow has made it so much more comfortable, plus I don't wake up with crazy creases on my face.

Elaina Bellis

Less back and shoulder pain when I wake in the morning, and sounder sleep.

Sarah Yates

The biggest change I’ve found is that I no longer experience pain in my ears when side sleeping!

Would you recommend this pillow to others?

Kristi Reed

Absolutely!

Clare Gillies

I actually just had a friend over earlier and forced her to try it haha! So, yes I would definitely recommend this pillow.

Elaina Bellis

I already have ;)

Sarah Yates

Absolutely!
