Last week we headed north to learn about carbon farming at Stemple Creek Ranch, hosted by our Bay Area friends at Fibershed. We started with an incredible tour of Stemple Creek Ranch, led by third generation rancher Loren Poncia, where we learned about the benefits he has seen from a regenerative farming approach and how it has changed cattle and sheep operation for the good. Following the tour, we had a delicious homegrown meal from local farmers Stemple Creek Ranch and Fortunate Farm along with a beer tasting from North Coast Brewing Company. After burgers and brews, Fibershed shared their work and perspective on the important connection between food and fiber systems, and how the two working together can help reverse climate change. We learned that current data from farming systems around the globe show that we could sequester more than 100% of annual CO2 emissions with a switch to organic farming practices. We admire Fibershed for educating and empowering us.
We are thankful for such an inspiring and warm Sunday afternoon with our eco-conscious community.
