Believe in a Better Way Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. – Margaret Mead Climate change poses an unprecedented threat to our planet, one that demands a global response. Governments and scientists can and should seek ways to reverse the trend, but we believe the power to safeguard our planet for future generations is also in the hands of the people – the creators and consumers – and the choices we make. Here are a few of the ways Coyuchi is combatting climate change and how, with each year and each product, we're deepening our commitment to responsible, sustainable practices that help preserve our Earth. Better Farming Coyuchi has been a pioneer of organic cotton since our founding in 1991. In addition to reducing environmental toxins, organic farming methods produce lower greenhouse gas emissions and sequester more carbon in the soil (and out of the atmosphere), so our carbon footprint starts out smaller. As we've expanded our product line beyond cotton, we continually seek out the most sustainable, environmentally friendly sources for our natural fibers. We're proud to introduce our new line of Organic Linen bedding and sleepwear, and to be instrumental in developing organic standards for wool, as well.Manufacturing Our home textiles are processed minimally, without toxic chemicals, to keep our impact on the environment low even after the fiber leaves the field. Most of our products meet the rigorous GOTS certification standard for purity, and we also seek out factories that consciously minimize their carbon footprint through vertical integration (where several steps take place under one roof), water recycling, green energy use and other methods. We continue to make a concerted effort to work with more farms and factories in the USA, as well, helping to increase demand for American organic cotton and reduce the distances our products travel to reach your home. Fair Trade In order to be certified Fair Trade™, farms and factories must comply with tough environmental standards, designed to protect the workers, the surrounding communities and the natural habitat. Fair Trade also ensures that producers earn more, so they don't need to cut corners environmentally in order to survive. Coyuchi works with trusted partners who adhere to these principals, visiting farms and mills to ensure standards are being met, and we're adding more Fair Trade™ certified products each year. Quality We love the "buy it once, buy it right" philosophy. It means choosing quality products with versatile, trend-defying style to reduce both the volume of manufacturing and of what ends up in the landfill. Coyuchi products are designed and crafted to perform beautifully through daily use and years of laundering and to layer effortlessly, so the sheets you bought last year will look great with this season's duvet. And when it's time for new bedding, you can take advantage of our Coyuchi for Life program, sending back your well-loved linens to be refreshed, upcycled or recycled into products with a whole new life.
